UCSF Chancellor’s Concert Series
We are very pleased to announce, after much hard work and fund raising, that the Chancellor’s Concert Series (CCS) will continue for the 2017-18 season. There will be nine concerts, one per month from September to May. However, whether the CCS will continue beyond the 2017-18 season is uncertain.
Here is the situation: The CCS must break even. All UCSF Campus auxiliary units are required to break even. Since we do not charge for admission, the CCS has not been breaking even. To break even and continue our concerts, we ask you, our attendees, to contribute some of the funding for the concerts. In addition, we need volunteers to help us do the necessary behind the scenes work, as volunteers reduce staff costs and help CCS break even.
The concert series is a free program that brings members of the San Francisco Symphony – arguably the best symphony orchestra in the country – and other exceptional classical musicians right to Parnassus Heights. The performers have very much valued the enthusiastic reception by you, the audience. The CCS is one of UCSF’s rare cultural programs on campus, a fantastic “oasis” that inspires and rejuvenates appreciative UCSF students, faculty, staff, retirees and the community throughout the academic year.
With your charitable gift specifically earmarked for the concert series, you show your support for the series. Our major donors need to know if continuing the series is important to you, the audience. Your gift, large or small, will be a tangible demonstration. Please make your gift today. All gifts specified for the concert series are tax-deductible.
HOW MUCH DO WE NEED?
With the help of volunteers taking over the behind the scenes staff work, each additional concert will cost only $1,683 for the season 2018-9. This is a reasonable and achievable goal with your participation. Any amount will be appreciated.
WHAT HAPPENS IN 2017-8 and WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN 2018-9?
We will have 9 concerts in 2017-8, with 7 of the concerts supported by leadership gifts. Continuation of this series would not have been possible without the generous leadership gift from Margot and John Clements.
In 2018-9, the number of concerts will depend on the number of contributors and the amount of support received. If most people in the audience were to contribute (the suggested amount is $50, $100, or more for 9 concerts a year), it will be evidence of audience support, and we will have nine concerts a year. Otherwise, without adequate audience support, the series will conclude.
