Come back soon!

This project will be launching soon.

San Francisco Mammography Registry

The San Francisco Mammography Registry is a registry of 600,000 women having breast imaging tests in the San Francisco Bay Area who have shared information that has contributed to 500 publications on breast cancer screening. Donations will help fund our research.

San Francisco Mammography Registry

Doctors and scientists at the University of California, San Francisco have created a breast imaging registry to learn more about mammograms, advanced breast imaging tests, and breast health. The main goals of the registry are to better understand how well mammograms, breast ultrasound, and breast magnetic resonance imaging find breast cancer in women of various ages, breast cancer risk, and ethnicity. We hope to learn more about how breast imaging tests can best detect breast cancer and what characteristics of women and tumors influence detection.

All women having breast imaging tests at participating radiology practices in the San Francisco Bay Area are asked to participate in the Registry. Women provide information on breast cancer risk factors and radiology facilities on breast imaging information. Breast cancer information is collected from cancer registries in order to evaluate how well breast imaging tests find breast cancer.

Currently, the SFMR is developing an approach to breast cancer screening that depends on a woman’s risk of breast cancer and the ability of breast imaging tests to identify cancers so clinicians target the right women with the right test at the right time.

The SFMR is part of a nationwide partnership called the Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium (BCSC), which pools information from mammography registries across the United States for analysis and publication in scientific journals. The BCSC brings together leading scientists from across the country to study breast cancer screening. By working together, we collect information about breast health and breast imaging from millions of women for our research.

Your gift is valuable! Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will advance our understanding of and assist us in advancing care for those with and without breast cancer who undergo breast imaging tests.  Your gift will immediately help fund research so that we can keep making life-saving discoveries.

Thank you for supporting our research and showing your care for women’s breast health and the lives affected by breast cancer. Private funds will help fill the funding gap created from cuts in public funds.
