The Impact of Your Support

Update (#3) – December 10, 2013

Dear friends,

Thank you for your support of our mHealth TLC crowdfunding campaign! We're 20% to our goal with just a few weeks remaining. We need your help to push us closer to our funding goal of $7,500. So please share this campaign and this message with your friends and families - whether by email, social media, or at the dinner table.

We are so close. After years of development and testing we need a few quality touches to enhance the experience. We need actor-generated voice overs and facial animations to produce the subtleties of stigma and discrimination that lung cancer patients encounter on a regular basis.

With your support and the support of many more individuals, mHealth TLC will be further refined and packaged as THE intervention to improve communication between patients and providers. mHealth TLC will decrease patients' feelings of shame and blame, assess their symptom experience and provide information on how to get relief and identify the hard questions they want to ask their providers.

We can give lung cancer patients the words and the skills they need to get the care they deserve.

Thanks for your help.

Happy holidays,

Janine K. Cataldo, RN, PhD, FAAN

VIDEO: Lung Cancer Stigma Presentation to World Conference on Lung Cancer

Update (#2) – November 22, 2013

Friends,

With your generosity and partnership, we are nearly 20% to our funding goal of $7,500. Thank you and I hope that you will continue to spread the word about this important project!

Last month I attended the World Conference on Lung Cancer in Sydney, Australia. I presented two papers on lung cancer stigma and displayed a poster of mHealth TLC. The conference was exciting and awe inspiring – there are great strides being made in lung cancer research. We are discovering new and effective ways to screen for lung cancer and precision medicine is providing us with evermore tailored and effective treatments. In addition, there is a focus on patient care and symptom management.

I chaired a panel of presentations by researchers from across the world – Australia, Norway, Canada, and USA – who are studying the effects of lung cancer stigma. Lung cancer stigma impacts patient-clinician communication and both physical and psychological well being. There are no current interventions for patients who experience stigma – mHealth TLC will be the first. Help us get to the finish line.

Please share this campaign widely among your friends, families, and social networks! Tell them why YOU support mHealth TLC. Share your commitment to empowering lung cancer patients to take control of their care and reduce stigma.

Thank you again for your support of this important campaign!

Best regards,

Janine Cataldo

We're 15% to our goal. Let's keep the momentum going!

Update (#1) – November 08, 2013

Friends,

With YOUR generous support, we've raised 15% of our funding goal in this first week! Thank you! But there's still a lot more campaigning to be done for us to reach and surpass our $7,500 funding goal by December 31st.

This week, while in Boston to present a paper at the American Public Health Association, I went to Lexington, MA to visit my parents' graves. Ralph was a farmer and a nursery man. Ruby was a Howard Johnson's waitress. I have a PhD because of them.

After 4 decades of working, Ralph and Ruby retired. Within 1 year of retirement, they died from lung cancer. They never met their grandchildren.
